| Will any regular steering wheel puller get our steering wheels off? And how hard is it to swap horn rings? I have a much nicer one that I need to put on. | |

| Starchief_59: Pulled mine with ordinary 'steering wheel puller'. Wheel has threaded holes for the pulling bolts so just be sure to match correct bolt threads to threaded holes. As I recall, you must first remove horn ring via four screws through a plastic insulator ring. Wheel should come right off. Temporarily fit on replacement wheel and center the steering. Unless you were extremely lucky, the wheel will now be off centered so just slip it off the splines, center, and reinstall the nut & lock nut. Reinstall the horn ring & plastic ring taking care not to tighten the screws too much. Too much will cause the horn to blow constantly. By the way, take care to observe how contactor, spring, & washers are assembled. Pay particular attention to the two washers, one has a shallow conical shape and all these parts must be reassembled in the same order and orentation. | |

| 3 screws on the horn ring, not 4. Otherwise just like 4896 said. | |

In your last post, you asked "how do I pop the horn ring off?"
Do you mean the steering wheel horn ring ornament assembly (as GM calls it), Gp.2. 817, P/N 532445 ?
If so, it just snaps out. However, be careful. Use a screwdriver, maybe two, at the top & bottom (the small rounded portions of the cap), thats the area of the cap where the springs are that hold the cap in place.

Just to clarify my last post, the portion of the cap to 'wiggle' off the cap with the screwdrivers is the portion furtherest away from the driver, not that area closest.

| I used a multi use puller (usually used to pull the harmonic balancer) to pull mine off. I will use a steering wheel puller next time as the holes didn't line up as well as I would have liked. The wheel came of real easy and the all the trim including the ring was easy. The horn cap "pops" off and the plastic rings were just held on with screws. I recommend taking pictures with a digital camera each step so that putting them back together will be easy. | |

| I got the new ring on. Looks much better. I'll take pictures next time. I have a harmonic balancer puller. I wonder if that will work. | |
