| heres what i've done so far [img] [/img] i'm starting with really just dismantling it. so i can get inside things and stuff [img] [/img] stored the back bumper, i've only gotten one taillight off so far i'm just being carefull with the ruined rusted bolts. i took the passenger door off too to start the clean up there. its in the worst shape of all four doors. i may just replace it [img] [/img] [img] [/img] since i took that pic i've taken the nose and all that apart. i'm taking the fenders off so i can clean out everything in there and paint the inside of the fenders and all the frame with POR 15.. love that stuff [img] [/img] some of the trunk floor with the front door panels sittin in there... its coming along great actually. i also took my hood off... course you have to in order to take off the fenders cause the hinges are bolted to them. anyways. any insights? ________________ Dev 1959 Pontiac Star Chief Vista | |

| When I took mine all apart I really wish I would have taken the whole front clip out together so I didn't have to re align everything which isn't going that great but its not too bad. Make sure you label which shims go where. I didn't do that either.
And when you take your car apart, make sure you keep working on it. It's easy to get discouraged when your car is in pieces and months (or years) away from ever driving it again. I've had my Star Chief almost 4 years, I hit it hard when I first got it and then didn't really touch it for about 2 years and now I've been hitting it pretty hard again. It'll all be worth it when it's finished | |

| true that Robert. when i had my El Camino in pieces i didnt touch it for 6 months. but i'm labeling everything i'm like a veteran at amature restos haha... i already have liuke 30 ziplock baggies with bolts and crap. and all the shims in their places. i dont plan on having it apart for very long. i already have the primer i need and the POR 15 paint so i'm just gonna git'er done and put back together as soon as i can. restoring a car doesnt have to take to long... tomrrow (friday) i'm gonna hit it hard and get a bunch of sanding done and cut out the rust holes. i'm going to get up at like 7 a.m lol. i once heard of two guys that together restored a 55 Chevy with only aircraft remover and steel wool in 4 months. i even saw the car it was stunning. of course they painted it and such and re-upolstered it but otherwise every single part was original. i dont think i'll be done in four months... but i have a plan. i'm getting as much done as i can in the next 2 and a half weeks untill i go back to school. but i'll still be working on her as much as i can. the only thing holding me back right now is money. i've done this before and i love it. Robert, didnt you already finish your front clip? or are you just realligning it but its back together? | |

| Yeah, mine is all back together but I put it all back together myself and I didn't have anyone to help me align it. My friend Thomas helped me the other night. We got the hood and fenders aligned a little better.
Keep at it! | |
