Pacific Northwest 1959 General Motors Gathering

Please contact me if you would like to participate in our gathering of the 1959 General Motors cars on Sunday, August 28 in the Tacoma area. We expect to draw 1959 model year General Motors cars from Oregon and British Columbia as well as from Western Washington state.

We will participate in the 60th Anniversary Reunion cruise-in for Busch's Drive-In, with the event held at Griot's Garage's flagship store in Tacoma. Following lunch, we go for a scenic driving tour with the 1959 General Motors cars.

At a minimum, I currently anticipate a 1959 Bonneville Vista and a 1959 Bonneville Safari Wagon, and it looks like we will also have a rare 1959 Olds 88 Fiesta wagon and 1959 Buick LeSabre Estate Wagon.

We would love to have some of the Canada-market '59 Pontiacs attend, as well as the U.S. models.

We had thirteen 1959 GM passenger cars for our event, but only two Pontiacs. I heard from three additional Pontiac owners who wished to participate but were unable to attend. Next year, I will re-double my effort to get more Pontiacs together for this event!

Here are photos shot at one of our stops in downtown Tacoma. This particular street is in the heart of Tacoma's historic "auto row", and one of the buildings in the background formerly housed the Pontiac-Cadillac dealership.

A few of us traveled later in the day to shoot photos at the old neon sign of the (now seedy) Daffodil Motel on old Highway 99. Old neon signs of this sort are rapidly disappearing from the American landscape, and, although this one is in poor repair, we knew if would make a great backdrop for our photos.

I shared photos of your Catalina Safari with the other wagon owners, and they would have been thrilled to see you and your car participating in our event.

I hope that you can join us next year, and hope that 59BlueBomber will be able to make the trek as well.
