| Does anyone know if I can take the filter and float off my old fuel tank sending unit and put them on ebay item number 370218712553? Bidding is up to $62 and I am thinking about going to $75 on it but I dont know for sure if I can use my parts on this NOS one that does not come with the float or filter. Any thoughts? | |

| I would search for 1962 sending units. There is a company that makes them brand new and they are identical to the 1959 sending units. They're about 60$ After I took a chance and ordered one for my star chief I emailed him to see if he would change the description to include 1959 but he never did. Good luck | |

| Got one! Thanks again. I had seen this but wasn't sure if it would work on the '59. Glad you could confirm it will. I would rather have this one as it is new and ss. | |

| That NOS one is a pretty good deal though, but if you can get stainless and brand new, screw it! | |

| Yes, stock is 3/8", and that is what the repro stainless one is. I have it, but have not had time yet to install it. | |

| I thought I would share some info on this subject. If your sending unit quits working, it could be from the cork drying out and cracking from the alcohol in the fuel. The original shellac has a tendency to almost dissolve in today's fuel. You can either replace the float with cork or a brass float. The latter will require soldering and modification to the arm, but works great. chev's of the 40's in Vancouver, Washington carries both for less than $10.00 each. The filter socks are readily available on ebay, just search for 3/8" fuel filter sock. They are used on just about every modern car built. | |

| I think mine had a brass float when I took it out. The float was rusted off and rolling around in the gas tank when I took it out to get it cleaned
The "61-64" sending unit works great in my star chief. My gauge still doesn't work though | |
