Fuel sensor Empty
PostSubject: Fuel sensor   Fuel sensor EmptyFri Apr 17, 2009 11:17 pm

Believe it or not after 50 years the fuel gauge on my 59 has stopped working. Because of the sporadic needle bounce i suspect the problem is the fuel sensor. Have any of you folks messed with trying to repair one? Is it worth it or should I just replace it? Know of a source?

I messed with mine quite a bit. Remove the tank and then the sending unit. Found a broken wire and repaired it. Still didnt work. Replace the gauge. Checked all the wiring front to back. Got it to working but it bounces like you say. I was going to replace the sending unit next but have yet to find one. May have to go used.

Look on ebay for a 61-63????? Sending unit. I bought one in hopes of it being the same and they are identical to ours. I informed the guy to change his listings to inclue 1959 but he hasn't yet. I imagine he'd get 5X more business if he included 1959 and 1960.

His units are stainless and only like 50-60$ Killer deal IMO
