Stabilizer Bar Bushings Empty
PostSubject: Stabilizer Bar Bushings   Stabilizer Bar Bushings EmptyWed Mar 18, 2009 9:52 pm

Anyone know for sure if the '61 stabilizer bar bushings are the same for the '59? NAPA doesnt list the '59 but they look the same.
John?
Not the stabilizer links, but the actual bushings.

THanks

wydtrac.....My 1960 Master Parts Catalog lists the number as 531959. I checked the 1972 Catalog and it lists the same number for 1961-62. Interesting that the bar is described as 11/16" and the hole as 5/8". Tight fit, so grease them up good! The catalogs also list Heavy Duty Police bars at 3/4" with 11/16" hole. Good idea to take your bracket off the frame and take it with you to NAPA to be sure.......John

They're pretty universal. All you need to do is find ones that have the same bar diameter. Most of the bushings have elongated holes to fit lots of different cars.

So far not luck finding these. Universal ones may be the best idea. These are 11/16" bar hole.
As you can see I have a slight rust problem on the drivers side. Any suggestions other than replacing the bar itself?

The one on my car was completely rotted off on the drivers side. I finally found a guy to sell me another one. No one makes them new but you can find companies that will make them custom for you for a few hundred bucks. If you do that you should go thicker .

Ya, I would go bigger if I replace it. Someone has suggested, since the rust is not a safety issue, wrapping it with an inner tube to make the new bushing fit tight. (that's assuming I ever find a new bushing).
I have found one site that may have the correct one.
http://www.energysuspensionparts.com/proddetail.asp?prod=MOOG%2DK5242#
I have emailed them for specs on their K5242 which they list as fitting a 1961 Bonneville.
I didn't expect this item to be the most difficult replacement issue on this car!
