| Does anyone know for sure what color the transmission pan should be on my Star Chief with the Hydra Matic transmission. I have removed it and cleaned it up, cleaned the screen and am ready to put it back on. But what color? Black? Grey, or Pontiac Blue? | |

| Filthy is being nice when describing mine. As clean as this car is on the top side, the bottom looks like someone drove it thru a grease barrel after driving it thru an oil barrel! Crud doesnt do it justice. I scrap it off with a putty knife! Thanks for any help. | |

| Mine was the same way, I wonder if it's due to that vent tube that vents under the car. | |

| Mine was completely rusted or bare metal. No color when I pulled it. I'd match it to the engine or paint it black. | |

| I'm sure that vent tube has a lot to do with it. Mine also has some type of rust proofing on it top to bottom so that also contributes. I'm a stickler for authentisity so I will be searching for the original color if I can find it. I bet someone on this forum can answer the question. | |

| I think I'm going to put some kind of breather filter on that vent. I haven't figure out what to do with it yet
I would watch ebay for restored cars and see if there are any undercarriage shots.
I'm going through my pictures right now to see if I have any pics | |

| Seems odd that factory would paint the pan a different color from the body of the transmission. Also, I don't think I've ever seen any other than a carburetor that color.
Just my $0.02 | |

| Looks like someone took some artistic license alright. I dont believe the tranny itself got painted, it being aluminum. The pan color in this picture looks ok although I'm not sure it is the original color. Thanks for posting this picture. It helps. | |

| I ended up with a color that is lighter that the grey in the previous pictures. Cast Coat Aluminum. Looks good under there. I cant seem to upload the picture of it but will keep trying. Thanks all for your input. | |
