Hood bumpers Empty
PostSubject: Hood bumpers   Hood bumpers EmptyMon Dec 01, 2008 9:26 pm

My Star Chief needs new hood bumpers in the front. The rear ones are smaller than the front ones. I got new rear ones but the front ones are being a pain in the affraid !
Can anyone verify that the front ones should be larger than the rear ones? and maybe a part number? The front rubbers are 1 1/8" diameter and 3/8" thick. At least that is what is on it now.
thanks!Hood bumpers Hood_b15

wydtrac.....Yes the front bumpers are larger than the rears. What you show in the picture is the correct size. I'll look up the part number for you tomorrow. Steel Rubber Products may reproduce them; I'll check my catalogue for them......John

wydtrac.....I can't find anyone who reproduces the original front bumpers. If it's originality that you need, you might try those Pontiac salvage yards that we've mentioned. The purpose of the bumpers is to keep the edge of the hood even with the edge of the fender when closed. As far as functionality goes, the rear bumpers could be used for same thing. Unless you are trying to make a concourse judged car, nobody would know the difference! Ames sells the rubber caps, the bolts, or both as an assembly. Steel (which is where Ames gets most of their rubber parts) has the same. Good luck.....John

Thank you sir, looks like that is what I will have to settle for. The ones from ames are correct for the rear bumpers so I will use those I expect.

What about seeing if they cross reference from another car? There are some Chevy parts that were very similar if not the same.... Just a thought.

Damn, I got to get me one of those manuals.
