| Scored a side view mirror off ebay last night. Been wanting to get the crappy square mirror off my door for years and get the correct mirror out on the fender. | |

| Those are sweet! If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for it?
I have a decent set of aftermarket ones from 59 that look sweet that I'm going to use.

| Got it for $40. I've been watching most of them go for close to $100 so I jumped on it. | |

| Good score Chris! Used to see these in good condition all the time at swap meets for $5-10. I should have bought several back then, but I already had a couple good ones, and I was more interested in finding the illusive passengerside one. Once saw an ad in Hemmings for a NOS pair. $400 so I passed on those. After several years of searching, I found a pitted one for $10. Sent it to a rechromer and for $65 he ruined it. Took a couple more years to find a NOS one.......John | |

| What happened at the Chromer?
Mine appear to be gold plated or something. I want them rechromed.

| That seems like a good deal - i went over 100$ on one, thinking that i could fit it to the passenger side. I didn't get it, but later i found out that it's not symetrical mirrors. | |

| The chromer might still be in business, but he didn't get any more from me! If yours look to be gold, it might be the copper showing through. When you want to have yours replated, let me know. I can give you some tips to avoid the problems I had. The Factory only installed the driverside mirror, and it was a $6.34 MSRP accessory. If you forgot to order it, you could have the dealer install one for $5.95 plus .2 hours flat rate. I don't know what the shop rate was in 1959, but I would guess about $9 or $10. So labor would add $1.80-2.00. Passengerside was only dealer installed and cost the same. Sometimes a dealer would get aftermarket mirrors cheaper, and make a little extra on the side. That's why you occasionally see square ones, or ones mounted on the door instead of the fender. The passengerside mirror looks just the same except that the base is angled the opposite way.....John | |

| Mine actually has screws in the fender where a mirror originally was. Then someone put a stupid square one on the fender at some point (whether breaking the original or not liking it on the fender). Anyways, I like the round mirrors and am glad to have found one for a good price. | |

| i bought some mirrors that go on the top of the door and hang down, hot-rod type ones. Had to drill holes in the door which freaked me out but they look good and it would be easy to patch up if or when i want to. | |
