Best car cover Empty
PostSubject: Best car cover   Best car cover EmptyThu Nov 07, 2013 2:16 pm

Hello,

looking for a car cover for a 59 Vista. Plan on keeping her inside right now but still want a good cover thats weather proof. What company have you had success ordering from.
When I first brought the car home I had to leave on the trailer for 2 nights and bought the biggest cover pep boys had which said up to 18' 9'' but it didnt fit down the sides of the car.
I would like a way better cover than pep boys sells.

Thanks for any experience or advice.

Vince,

I've never had much luck with car covers on my 59 because the cars are so big compared to cars made today.  The points on the rear fins are murder on most car covers.  While I don't have a suggestion for the cover, I do have another suggestion that you may find helpful.

Find a good sized thick cardboard box and cut out the corners, including about a foot of cardboard all the way around, then cover the points on the fins with the cardboard before putting the car cover on.  The cardboard will protect the car cover from ripping to shreds on those points.

Good luck!

Michael

Thanks for the tip Michael.

I guess I should ask which car cover COMPANY. I plan on buying online so it concerns me that the one I bought that said it would fit @ pep boys wasnt even close.
I may have kept it for the Catalina but ripped it like you said.
Very Happy

I stored my 59 outside for 2 years and had the same problem. No prefab'd covers would fit. My car was already in pretty bad shape by then and I just wanted to keep it from getting worse. I don't know if this is an option for you, but here is what I did.

I went to the local home depot and bought 3 heavy duty tarps, 2 smaller ones that I put over the hood and trunk, then another larger one that went over the roof. The tarps had about 2 feet laying on the ground all the way around the car. I used bungee coards to hook the tarps to the frame. The tarps were pulled tight against the car so they didn't flop around much like some car covers do. Since the tarp over the roof was put on last, rain would run off onto the smaller tarps then off the car.

The problem with tarps is that the matterial can scratch your paint. If you have a car cover that comes close to covering your car maybe puting a large tarp over the car cover will work to cover the rest?
