| That's the part that scares me the most haha
The only thing I would do is wait to take it apart until you can put it back in in the same day
Why are you taking it out?

| i found it not too hard, just take one wire off at a time and label it, its east to get at because the whole top of the dash comes off. I took mine all apart and then painted the dash front. | |

| wow thanks guys. yeah i want to remove everything and make sure there isnt any deadly rust issues under there and i need to rewire some stuff. i want it all cleaned out..
Thanks for the advice guys, i'll probably work on that as soon as i get floors in, but it may end up being the last thing i do haha. oh and thanks for the wiring diagram! that'll be a help
and yeah, eventually i will rewire my whole car too. most of the wires are probably to brittle to be safe anymore

| This was probably one of those fluke things but when I took my dash and instruments out, the coupling on the speedometer cable somehow managed to disappear into the fiewall. How in the heck that thing slid down that cable past the jungle of wires into the tiniest opening in the insulation and lodged in the gap is beyond me. Especially considering I thought I was being mindful of it AND the car never moved! Didn't realize it until reassembly. A 30 second cable re-attachment took over an hour (60 plus minutes of searching, cussing, searching then 30 seconds twist.) Knew it couldn't have come off but couldn't find it... thought I was losing my mind. I couldn't have flung it in there in a 100 trys but there it was... go figure.
I agree if you're not putting back almost immediately then label, label, label & photograph.

| I don't think I would really want to add anything. I would probably ditch the cig lighters and radio wires | |

| thechief.....Here's a good quick tip. While you have the dash top off, paint the underside white or light silver. In the future it will make it easier to to see what you are doing up under there while laying on your back, with your feet in the air, a flashlight in your mouth, and the socket you need rolling under the seat out of reach......John | |
