He was decent in the 90s when he was just a redneck and didn't TRY to be a redneck. How is a crappy patriotic song and a bar song and a song about not being as good as he once was enough to be voted songwriter of the decade?
That's a bunch of BS. Dwight Yoakam is the shit, everyone else should bow down to him. He's a great song writer, a great singer and a great performer. Not to mention he's just plain cool and obviously doesn't give a fuck what anyone else thinks. I saw him at White Water Amphitheater in july, he was wearing a long sleeve shirt and a denim jacket and it was 100+ degrees out. hahaha how cool is that
