| I'd be willing to bet that yours was the only 59 Pontiac at the cruise-in... and could probably say the same for any of the guys on this forum. With the exception of a couple of "all Pontiac" shows I haven't seen another 59 and I've been to a ton of cruise-ins here over the years. Having such a unique (& cool) vehicle is one of the things I like the most about the 59.
Love the photos that you guys post... keep'em coming!

| There are some pretty nice cars at these Cruise Nights. Nobody is there trying to win any trophies so it's pretty laid back. Lots of good conversations and no pressures. Everyone loves the old cars and is just there having fun. I like the 1958 Chevy Impala in the picture. The cute lady in the 50's outfit belonged to it. It was loaded with options and really looked great. (the car too!) Tonight is Cruise Night at the Topsham Mall. See ya all there! | |

| yeah, nice pics. I will agree that we are probally the only ones at a cruise night with a 59. Around here im the only one and its amazing the compliments i get on the car. One guy last week said dont change a thing, dont repaint it, dont redo the interior, dont even put door panels back in!! He said it is exactly what they would have done back in the day when they were hot rodding them. One local guy here says one night that he thinks this is one of the best lookin cars around (he has a rat rod also) and just the lines and how hard the stamp would have been to make for the panels just amazes him. I like it when thay appreciate it for the car and not just a paint job and shiny chrome. These are truly one of a kind cars!! | |

| I hope one of her options didn't include "stick shift" option We have a cruise night in San Antonio like that. Real laid back, just a bunch of people hangin out and walking around a big parking lot. It's all local guys who actually drive their cars. To me that's more fun than a big car show where all these guys trailer their 100% perfect cars to the show. YAWN I like to see home built cars, rock chips, door dings, oil leaks. They show character. Good point Trevor. Just the body shape of our cars is just amazing. I recently had a bunch of family over, my aunt and uncle thought the '63 was cool until they saw the '59 buick but then they saw the '59 Pontiac in the garage and it really made them droool. It's not even a nice car but there's no denying it's "cool" factor | |

| Ain't old cars great?! Fortunately there are quite a few regular cruise-ins here in the Richmond, VA and no shortage of "car shows". I agree that the cruise-ins are more relaxed plus you tend to see all stages of restoration, not just the "trailer queens". I have nothing against TQs, just that I get more enjoyment out of driving it than just looking at it. I'm not afraid of driving it... just afraid of where I park it! (Unattended anyway.)
While many of the attendees aroun d here are regulars it is not unusual to see something "new." That helps keep things fresh. Even though some of the turn-outs are large I can't help but think it's a small percentage of old car owners considering the number of old rides that are seen motoring around here on pretty weekends.
Keep the pictures coming (yours and theirs.)

| Indeed it is a '40 Merc and a very nice one at that! This guy has had the car for a very long time and part of the story is that he and the chevy owner next to it drove it to California and back in 9 days when they were just out of school. They both cringe to think about it now. My parents first car was a '40 Merc convertible just like this one. I'll see if I can find a picture of it to share. | |

| Here it is, my parent's first car, a 1940 Mercury Convertible. At least I think this is it. Mom tells me when my oldest brother Tim, seen in the picture, came along, they had to sell it 'cause he couldn't keep warm in the back seat in the winter time. What a wimp! | |

| It says 1950 on the back of the picture. I love these pictures too. I have all my parents old photo albumns archived just for this purpose. Dad was an avid photographer and developed his own pictures for a long time. | |

| That's pretty cool!!!! There's my dad when he was about my age circa 1982 with his 1974 Dodge about a mile from where I grew up. It's no 1940 Merc but it's cool | |

| Excellent! Of course I graduated from HS in '74 so that tells you I'm an old fart! but I remember working on trucks just like your dad's. I could climb right into the engine compartment and sit on the inner fender to do a tune up! These old pictures are fun to pass around. How about everybody find an old family picture and share it with us? Tell us about the picture and reminisce a little? Let's see what you all can come up with. | |

| wydtrac.....I think that the car in the old picture is a Plymouth. Note the three ribs on the fenders behind each wheel, the higher parking lights above the headlights, the "Deluxe" script toward the rear of the hood side, and the stylized sailing ship (Mayflower) for a hood ornament. Not that it matters though. All those coupes and convertibles from about 1939 to 1948 had really great looks.......John | |
