My '59er... Empty
PostSubject: My '59er...   My '59er... EmptySat Apr 25, 2009 1:45 am

Hey all,

So I bought a '59 Pontiac Strato Chief (Canadian model... I'm in Edmonton, Alberta) recently and was ushered here by a fellow '59 enthusiast.

It needs a big pile of love, but it was an offer I couldn't refuse... $800 for a 2-dr post, and I'm not sure if it's got a 235 or a 261 in it... (because I haven't even gotten it home yet and those 2 engines are pretty similar), but I do know that's it's got a 3-speed on the column it's that slick ice-blue color that turns to a boring grey after sitting in the sun for 50 years.

I'm the 3rd owner of this thing, and the second owner didn't even touch it.

It's had NO work done to it in any other than routine maintenance while it was still being driven, and I just finished grinding what was left of the original tires of the front wheels...

My goal is to be able to drive it before the snow hits, and get to work on body work over the winter. It should be super-dope by next spring and I'm gonna drive the shit out of it.

That's my deal.

Thanks for letting me join your club.

Hell yeah! I'd buy a 2 dr post for 800$ even if only the body is Pontiac.

Show us some pictures when you get a chance!

What are your plans? I bet a V8 4 speed transplant wouldn't be that hard....I couldn't resist My '59er... 39432

Well, that's the thing about Canadian Pontiacs... they're chocked full of Chrevrolet bits... Engines... Transmissions... and they're built on the x-frame.

Ultimately, since it's a completely undisturbed vehicle, I want to use as much of what I have as possible. It won't be a 'complete restoration' because there's a lot of rusted out components that I'm just going to write off.

Job number one is getting it running & driving... and stopping, then I can start to chip away at body work.

I love hot rods, but I'm not sure how crazy I'm going to get with this thing since it's all-original, but I am gonna have some fun with it & make it my own... so... 'Classic/Low-Rider' is the name of the game so far.

These are pictures that were emailed to me before I bought the car... I haven't taken any pictures myself yet. There are no engine pictures... but trust me... it needs love.

Man that's awesome! Let me know if you ever want to get rid of those back up light deletes and put in some real back up lights. I love those back up light deletes

Glad to have you. Misery loves company! (Hey, restoring a car is a love-hate situation!) Just kidding... welcome.
