Help decoding trim plate Empty
PostSubject: Help decoding trim plate   Help decoding trim plate EmptyThu May 06, 2010 6:37 pm

Hi Guys, I just bought a 1959 Bonneville that needs a complete restoration. I am looking for help in decoding the trim plate so I can see what color it was originally and what options it had. I searched to see if there was already a thread to help me decode it but I didn't find one so hopefully you guys can help.

Style E59-2837 Body PO 5092
Trim 278 Paint CC
ACC F-B-i-KX-JX

Thanks,

Pat

patoke.....your trim tag decodes as follows: Style-never saw one with a letter "E", but the 59=1959, 28=Bonneville, and the 37=Sport coupe (two door hardtop.) Body-PO=Pontiac Michigan Fisher body plant, and the 5092=the sequential body build number. Trim 278=Ivory with Metallic Maroon and Mahogany "Morrokide" Imitation Leather. Paint CC=Cameo Ivory top and bottom. The ACC codes are F=Back-up lamps, B=Heater and defroster, I=E Z Eye glass all windows, KX=Laytex foam cushion front, JX=Instrument panel padded. And yes, to pre-answer your question, all these were optional equipment on all 1959 cars, except the dash pad which was standard on the Bonneville only......John

Hi guys, I just bought a 1959 Star Chief parts car but it is nicer than my Bonneville I was going to restore. So know I need to figure out what to do. I am hoping you guys can help me decode this car as well.

patoke.....you left a number off the style code, but it is 24 for a Starchief and either a 11 for Sport Sedan (2door post) or 19 for sedan (4door post.) The BC is for the Fisher Body plant in Southgate Californication. Trim 248 is "light green and metallic medium green Seville grain Morrokide imitation leather." Paint EC is Jademist green poly body and Cameo Ivory top. Poly means that it is a metallic paint. I'm not fond of too many green cars, but that Jademist is really pretty......John

Thanks John. You are a wealth of knowledge. It is a two door so the guy reading the numbers to me over the phone must have forgotten the second 1. I also am not a fan of green cars typically but I kind of like this one. Since the Bonneville is a hardtop and the Star Chief is a sedan, that might help me make the decision as to which car to build. I typically prefer hardtops versus post cars.

There is the Bonnie. That thing is SWEET! Is the interior savable or are you going to have it all redone? It looks like it could be cleaned up and be alright for a driver

Thanks Robert!! I am not sure what I am going to do with them yet. The Bonneville's interior is salvagable and I think I like the look of the hardtop better. Therefore, I will need to steal a bunch of parts off of the starchief for the Bonneville restoration. Would you still want it after I take what I need? If so, you have dibs on it. I'm not sure what I need yet but it is mainly some interior trim pieces like window cranks, arm rests, etc and some motor parts (radiator, inner fenders, wiring, etc). Once I get into it, I will know what I need. Right now they are just sitting here while I finished up my 65 Chevy truck that was in fender bender. Hopefully, I can get started on the 59's next week sometime.

I wouldn't want to restore it, I'd want to drag race it so I might still want it. We'll burn that bridge when we get there haha

We think a like. I was thinking about turning into a drag racer also if I don't sell it. I saw some video of that white 59 drag racer that looks pretty sweet along with that 60 that runs 10's.

Yeah that Wilhites 59 is pretty sweet but I really like that black 60.

I've been wanting to do a street strip 62 like 12 second car so bad but fuck i'd settle for another 59 star chief but it would have to be a 2 door sedan. I got a set of ported and polished 1962 heads ready to go along with a bare 62 block. Just waiting for the right car so I can get goin on the stroker and throw that bitch in the 59

And I already know 59s like the back of my hand so the resto work i would do on it wouldn't be anything new.

But I donĀ“t know what trim 249 exactly is, could you help me?

reaper.....Shoreline Gold and Cameo Ivory is correct for code PC. Trim #249 is listed in the parts manual as beige and metallic light copper Seville grain Morrokide. This was an option available on Starchief Vistas and Sport Sedans. I have no information as to whether it was extra cost or not. Looking at the swatches in my dealer album, the beige has an ever so slight pinkish tint. The copper is beautiful, with a really heavy metallic sheen......John
