Four 1959 Pontiac Strato Chief's were sold by General Motors, South Africa. One went to Kenya, one to Rhodesia/Zimbabwe and two were sold in South Africa. All were blue with a white top. I have one. Four door, hard top straight six engine, power brakes and steering. It spent all its life in the Khalahari desert therefore it is totaly rust free. 478 228 miles on the clock.I intend to restore this rare beauty back to it's original glory. Somebody told me these Pontiac's were manufactured by Holden in Australia. I am not too sure about that. Any further info would be much appreciated.

Wow, that's cool! I didn't know that. Where are you located?

I am located on a farm in the Ghanzi district of north western Botswana. Western boundry of the farm is the Namibian border. (nearest town is Ghanzi approx. 130 km). My 59 Pontiac belonged to one owner all it's life and has stood in a farm shed for the last twenty years. All glass is missing but other than that it is in excelent condition. Seats of course are shot. My main problem, because of my isolation, is obtaining parts but thank heaven for the internet. I have ordered a full set of glass from USA and expect delivery in about three months. Will keep you up to date on progress.

Hope everything is going OK with your resto. I am very intersted in learning more about the SA cars. I have a 59 Strato Chief from South Africa that I imported into Australia. However, it has a Chevy V8, with a build and casting date in Jan 1959. Hoping to hear from you again with an update.

Welcome aboard drmb. I like the color of your car... (no surpise there for those that know me!)

Good luck to ugo fanton with the restoration!
