Saga of the Leischer updates Empty
PostSubject: Saga of the Leischer updates   Saga of the Leischer updates EmptyThu Jan 07, 2010 7:14 pm

Hey guys, just jumped in to say HI and update my activities. I was approached by a gentleman to buy my Trans Am. We agreed on a price and he wants it. Will take him maybe 6-8 weeks to complete the transaction but he seem very genuine. Either way I'm not out anything if he falls thru. SOOO. I started playing around with the '40 to get the juices flowing so I can decide to start the build on it or sell it off and continue my quest for a '59/'60 Catalina. My heart is really with the Catalinas but the gasser would be fun. This is a pic of the '40 with one of the 16.5 wide ET Streets just sitting without a rim in the wheelwell.

And the inside firewall. It was already cut but I would cut it back even farther, to the front of the door frame, build my own dash and firewall and move the engine/trans back a far as the new firewall would allow.

Now. I mentioned playing with a '60 Catalina model so get a feeling for a '60 gasser. I did a quick build but remember it is actualy a Bonneville model so the longer body and wheelbase does look a little out of proportion. But it does give you an idea of where I would go. The only difference is I would drop the body just a little more down over the slicks. It is a little too high.

This is a '60 Catalina Pro-Street that a guy did a fantastic build on, I would not mind going that route either.

Well that's it so far. Things are happening fast when the guy comes for the TA. Had to really soul search on letting it go but I'm always looking to the next project. At least I'll actually have some real money to play with up front. I won't know how to act. (But I'll figure it out). Thanks for listening guys. Remember, I'm open for a '59 too. Could be just as cool. I could become real member and pester you guys al the time, heh. Mark L

That gasser is looking good with those big ass slicks!

IT sucks you have to sell your TA but a gasser will be sweet, especially if you get a 59 or 60. You're open to 4 doors right?

That model is sweet! I'll get some pictures of some of the models I have built, nothing that cool but I did do a cool 37 Ford, 34 ford, 32 ford, 38 ford coupe and I have started but never finished multiple others

I'm still trying to get that 52 Ford old school gasser that guy said I could have. Gassers are just too cool

I'm hoping we can build our next projects at the same time and hopefully TRUMP will get his going too. It would be cool to see 3 Pontiac powered old school builds at the same time. You're close enough for a get together some time. It would be a good road trip but worth it

Hey Robert, when I get something done and roadworthy I'd love to do a road trip. Maybe meet somewhere mid point?? Finally get to meet face to face. I'll apologize now ahead a time for scaring you, heh. Mark L

Scaring me? haha

I'll be down for a road trip. Are there any racetracks between Arizona and Texas?

Area 51 drag strip in New Mexico. See it on Past Time all the time. Not sure where that is. How far are you from the New Mexico border? Mark L

Sadly, The New Mexico border is at least 600 miles from me. San Antonio raceway is right around the 600 mile marker on I10 which is 600 miles from the NM border.

Area 51 is in Roswell.

*Albuquerque National Dragway Albuquerque, NM (new 6/24/05)
* Area 51 Dragway Roswell, NM (updated 4/30/07)
* Arroyo Seco Raceway Deming, NM (new 5/22/05)
* Hobbs Motorsports Park Hobbs, NM (new 6/25/05)
* Old Cavern Dragway Carlsbad, NM (updated 10/08/07)

And Texas

* Abilene Dragstrip Abilene, TX (updated 6/04/07)
* Amarillo Dragway Amarillo, TX (updated 6/06/07)
* Angleton Raceway Angleton, TX (updated 6/06/07)
* Ben Bruce Memorial Airpark Raceway Evadale, TX (updated 6/10/07)
* Cedar Creek Dragway Seven Points, TX (updated 4/1/07)
* Cherokee County Motorsports Park Rusk, TX (updated 7/07/07)
* Desert Thunder Raceway Midland, TX (updated 7/09/07)
* Edinburg International Racetrack Edinburg, TX (updated 7/09/07)
* Houston Motorsports Park Houston, TX (updated 7/12/07)
* Houston Raceway Park Baytown, TX (updated 7/12/07)
* Lonestar Motorsports Park Sealy, TX (updated 7/16/07)
* Lubbock Dragway Idalou, TX (updated 7/16/07)
* Navasota Raceway Navasota, TX (updated 7/16/07)
* North Star Dragway Denton, TX (updated 7/16/07)
* Paris Drag Strip Sun Valley, TX (updated 7/16/07)
* Pine Valley Raceway Park Diboll, TX (updated 7/16/07)
* Redline Raceway Caddo Mills, TX (updated 7/17/07)
* Rio Grande Speedway McAllen, TX (updated 7/17/07)
* San Antonio Raceway Marion, TX (updated 7/17/07)
* Temple Raceway Academy, TX (updated 7/17/07)
* Texas Motorplex Ennis, TX (updated 7/18/07)
* Texas Raceway Kennedale, TX (updated 7/18/07)
* Thunder Alley Dragway El Paso, TX (updated 7/18/07)
* West Texas Raceway Park Penwell, TX (updated 7/18/07)
* Wichita Raceway Park Iowa Park, TX (updated 7/17/07)
* Yello Belly Drag Strip Grand Prairie, TX (updated 7/18/07)

Abilene, Midland and El Paso are all between here and NM. Maybe more but I don't recognize a lot of those cities.

We're a ways a way but we should figure something out when the time comes

I figure you're what? 15 hours from me? I think LA is about 19 hours and San Fran is about 24 from me. If you're about 15 hours El Paso would be about the midpoint. About 8 hours from me. Carlsbad isn't too far into NM that's possible too

Mapquest says 14.35 hours for me from here to San Marcos. El Paso is 6.5 hours. El Paso looks good. Man I never knew TX had so many strips. Lots of flat land huh???. Is ElPaso a 1/4 mile or an 1/8th mil strip? Mark L

Yeah there's a lot of flat land but actually where I live is called the Hill Country. Pretty hilly and it's a pretty big section of Texas. East texas is all hills and pine trees. Dallas is kind of like down here but not as pretty. South texas and the panhandle are pretty flat, west texas is all desert pretty much

Well a little more research showed that the El Paso track closed in 2005. What a shame
