Hey... Anyone ever ripped their cracked-up crappy old dash pad off & left it that way? A friend of mine did in his '59 Edsel because it was all melted & crappy, but the padded dash was an option in that car. I'm thinking about trying it in my ponch... is that a bad idea? How would it look? xo D

it will look like mine, its metal. mine was a no option car, no radio, padded dash, no nothin. I think it looks good, i like the look and all i did to mine was sand it down, prime it and paint it. I have another dash top im going to airbrush and pinstripe some time soon.

Mine did not come with a padded dash either. When I first got the car the finish on the very top of the dash . was dull and I thought it was faded from the sun. I even tried to buff/polish it until an older fellow informed me that it was supposed to have somewhat satin finish for glare contol... Dopey me. Makes perfect sense now. My painter thought I was nuts and a bit skeptical when I told him to purposely give the top a satin finish. Afterwards he became a believer. At first glance most folks thinks it's padded.

There are some links to a few photos of my interior posted under "What's your story" and then "Big Red Sled". Maybe you can get some idea what the dash looks like with a satin finish. Maybe the look works for you... maybe not.

Luckily mine didn't have the padded dash either. I assume they just put the pad right over a stock dash? I guess if you rip it out it will be just like a reg dash but I'm not sure _________________ Robert Lewis 1959 Pontiac Star Chief 4 Door Hard Top 1959 Buick Electra 4 Door Sedan 1976 Dodge Power Wagon W200 4x4 383 auto 1986 Dodge Power Ram W100 4x4 318, 4 speed 2007 Hemi Ram 14.52@92.50

I doubt it, I hardly ever see 59/60 Pontiacs with padded dashes though. _________________ Robert Lewis 1959 Pontiac Star Chief 4 Door Hard Top 1959 Buick Electra 4 Door Sedan 1976 Dodge Power Wagon W200 4x4 383 auto 1986 Dodge Power Ram W100 4x4 318, 4 speed 2007 Hemi Ram 14.52@92.50
