Looking at a '59 but know nothing about the motor yet. See it at craigslist 1379707775. Waiting to see if he sold it on e-bay. Probably just jinxed myself out a dis one too, heh. Thanks guys.
Edelbrock EP4B intake - what's the truth ?.

I've been wanting a 4brl intake for a while, but i lost the last original 59 intake on e-bay. Now i wonder if a Edelbrock EP4B can be used ?.

What is the story about this intake ?

I see different discriptions - some say it is pre 65 pontiacs, some say it is 59 to 64, and some says it is only 61 to 64.

They all seem to agree that EP is Early Pontiac - fair enough, but how early ???

These seem to come at a resonable price, and should fit the large selection og 4 brl carbs - i wonder ...

The bell housings and flywheels are hard to find for this swap but they are out there. You'll need a fywheel and bell housing from '58(maybe even 57 or earlier) - 1960 Pontiac or GMC heavy duty truck with a pontiac motor in it. The flywheels are 12" and have 176 teeth. These bellhousings will fit all GM 4 speed manual trannies: Saginaw, Borg Warner, Muncie...

I have replaced the oil pan gasket on my star chief 389 and as careful as I was doing so, it still has a leak. I have retightened all the bolts and carefully checked everything but it still has a small leak. It is enough of a leak that I dont want to drive it as it is.

Any tips or thoughts on this and how to cure it would be helpful. I was extremely careful when replacing the gasket and felt confident that it would not leak, but there it is on the garage floor. Damn! I hate to drive it this ...

OK, here's a new subject. Motor mounts.

I have tried two different sources for new motor mounts for my 59 Star Chief with the 389 v8 2bbl.

Both are incorrect.

The first set: the single mounting hole is larger than the originals and the left and right are different, where as the originals, both are the same and could be used on either side. These also are angled differently.

The second set: mounting hole is larger and again they are not the same and angled differently. Also different from ...

I read that our oil capacity was 5 quarts. I have 5 quarts in my motor but I don't show anything on the dip stick. Could it be because I poured some in the filter and since I haven't started it it hasn't all circulated? I'm gunna put another quart in to make sure.

I recently pulled the water pump off my 389 to replace it, since it was leaking, and found that the replacement didnt line up quite right with the stud mounts. I discovered the difference being two of the holes on the original one are off center of the tab they are drilled in. The replacement is not off center, thus will not go on. The original casting number is 518040. Searching this number I found one on ebay that looks the same as the replacement I returned, and the description for it says ...

Anyone do away with the points distributor on their engine? I've been looking into the different options and with the Tri Power I can't use a HEI distributor due to clearance without grinding on the manifold. I've been doing some research and have been considering the Pertronix option. Anyone use this? Is it any good?

Just to offer up for a local guy who sells these. I have one on my '59 and no more oil siphoning back out of the heads. I have good oil pressure even on startup now. They're $57 including shipping and well worth the money I think.

Real nice, honest guy even though he's a Dodge fan.
