Anyone ever ripped their cracked-up crappy old dash pad off & left it that way?

A friend of mine did in his '59 Edsel because it was all melted & crappy, but the padded dash was an option in that car.

New rear shocks, fuel lines, brake lines, wheel cylinders, all new brake hardware, brake adjusters, master cylinder and slave cylinder for the clutch linkage, air cleaner adapters so reg air cleaners will fit on my old Carter carbs, battery cables to put the battery in the trunk and some more little stuff. I'm still tryin to figure out if I can make a dual chamber master cylinder work. I seldom see another one and here was a beauty Star Chief. Turns out the owner hasn't had it but a few weeks... says he went to Indiana to get it. Unbelievably, the odometer showed less than 20,000 miles! The owner says that it was actual mileage. The car appeared to still have original paint and interior. Very, very clean. Some very nice rides.. turn-out was a little light though. My 59 won First in my class... didn't get too excited though... there were only 3 in my class! There were about 100-120 vehicles of all types and condition, but most in very fine shape. Much to my surprise my 59 was selected as "Pick of the Week". I think mine was picked mainly because I was some new "blood' . I say that because there were SCORES of much finer vehicles there so I didn't let it go to my head. He said he has called everywhere looking for a replacement and has run out of sources. Does anyone have any ideas where to get this replacement or if they think this is even the problem.
